Long gone are the days of posting a bunch of similarly titled and almost-exactly-the-same content! Seriously, if you’re still doing that, stop. Take a breath. You need a new plan. That practice should have stopped years ago.

But why?

Because – Keyword Cannibalization

So, what is Keyword Cannibalization?

Keyword Cannibalization is when you create multiple articles on your website that are optimized to rank for the same keyword or phrase. This means that you’re confusing Google about which page you want to rank highest for that term. And I ALWAYS tell people, you don’t want to confuse Google. You want to make it easy for them.

So, then what do I do?

It’ll take a little work, but work on posting different kinds of content. Here are some ideas:

Customer stories – these will naturally have the terms that you want to rank for in them, they just aren’t going to be the same posts as you already have on the site.

Team stories – share a post written by a member of your team, or interview someone from your team.

How-To Articles – look at question searches related to what you do, and do an article on how to do something related to that. Answer The Public can help you find topics.
